Lake Tahoe – simply put, this is the “Queen of the Sierras”. Just 15 short miles South of Truckee, Tahoe can be access from Highways 89 or 267. The following links offer excellent information on this natural wonder:

Donner Lake - with warmer water than Tahoe, feels like a New England Lake would feel. Paddleboats, jet skis, and kayaks are available for rent.

Boca, Prosser, and Stampede Reservoirs - just northeast of Truckee and easily reached. Boating, fishing and picnics are allowed.

Jackson Meadows Reservoir – Located about 30 minutes North of Truckee on Highway 89. Aspen and Lodgepole Pines flank the rocky slopes surrounding this high, isolated mountain lake.

Marlette Lake – sits on Tahoe’s East shore and offers beautiful, popular terrain that’s highly recommended for those who want a half day’s hike. The trail is wide and smooth and has scenic meadow, mountain, and canyon views along the way.

Fallen Leaf Lake – deep on Tahoe’s West shore near South Lake Tahoe. From here, you can easily hike other nearby smaller lakes.
